Aseptic Surgery Forum to discuss the prevention and treatment of surgical infections

Published: 29-Oct-2009

A multidisciplinary event will take place in Paris next year to discuss the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of surgical infections. The Aseptic Surgery Forum will run from 26–27 March 2010. It includes a two-day conference, alongside which there will be an exhibition of equipment and fittings; maintenance, cleaning and disinfection products; medical devices and implants; packaging and sterilisation; surgical kits and clothing, masks and gloves.

The first day of the conference will discuss why infections occur, anti-microbial coatings, cleaning the hands, the human factor, and the design and organisation of the operating theatre. Topics such as whether to use in-house or contract sterilisation facilities and whether we’re doing enough to prevent surgical site infections will also be debated.

On the second day there will be a round table to discuss the surgical treatment of infected total hip prostheses and whether it should be in one or two steps.

There will also be papers on the use of skin sealant to insulate against bacteria, anti-bacterial sutures and skin glues, surgical infection in the dentistry and veterinary industries and the legal and financial consequences of surgical infections.
