Canyon takes the bag out of the bottle for sterile liquids

New version of the T95 trigger sprayer is suitable for use with sterile cleaning liquids

A new version of the T95 trigger sprayer, suitable for use with sterile cleaning liquids, has been developed by Canyon Europe.

Until now sterile cleaning products have required an expensive, specially made bottle incorporating an inner bag because the high levels of gamma radiation used to sterilise the standard bottle and contents have degraded the polymers in the sprayer and affected efficiency.

Furthermore, bacteria-laden air cannot be allowed to flow freely into the bottle and contaminate the sterilised contents. Simply blocking the vent hole is no solution: a vacuum is caused by the volume of liquid not being replaced by air, leading to the collapse of the sides of the traditional bottle.

Canyon Europe has developed a new sprayer with a venting membrane that allows conventional low-cost bottles to be used. ”The membrane acts as a filter and its microscopic holes allow air molecules to pass through, while preventing the entry of bacteria,” explains Neil Ryan, Product Development Manager at Canyon. “This innovative new system successfully prevents bottle collapse but keeps the liquid sterile.”

Another advantage of the venting membrane is its ability to let gas pass through it. Some liquids release a gas when exposed to gamma radiation, which causes a bottle with a non-vent sprayer to swell, resulting in leakage of the liquid. The venting membrane eradicates this problem.
