Count by colours using ProtoCOL2

Published: 1-Sep-2009

Don Whitley Scientific in Shipley, West Yorkshire, UK offers ProtoCOL2, an automated colony counter and zone sizing system manufactured by colony counting specialist Synbiosis.

The ProtoCOL2 can analyse a range of media, including membrane filters, opaque and transparent agars, and cut workloads by more than 80% when compared with manual processes, says the company. It enables microbiologists to perform colony counting and zone reading precisely and efficiently.

The system includes a large colour touchscreen to allow rapid data input. No additional equipment is required. A high-resolution camera and LED lighting system provide optimal illumination of coloured colony plates.

Ideal for identifying specific micro-organisms in a mixed population, different colours of colony are clearly distinguishable on one plate. The system’s dark wrap-around screen doors are designed to optimise imaging by eliminating the effects of ambient, natural or fluorescent light.

DWS has more than 20 years of experience installing, servicing and maintaining colony counters around the UK and Europe.
