GW Plastics announces major expansion of its medical device moulding business

The medical device contract manufacturer expands its thermoplastic, silicone, and training facilities in Royalton, Vermont, US


GW Plastics will be breaking ground later this month in a major expansion of its Royalton, Vermont, US facility to accommodate its growing medical device business.

The initial expansion of its Manufacturing and Technology Centre in Royalton will include 21,000ft2 of space, but the entire project will eventually scale up to 50,000ft2.

The firm said the expansion would accommodate growth in its thermoplastic and liquid silicone rubber (LSR) injection moulding and medical device contract assembly business.It will also make room for improved workforce training and development facilities at its Technical and Training Centre, where GW Plastics conducts scientific injection moulding training and manufacturing classes for its employees, customers, and local area high schools.

When complete, the expansion will house an additional 30 thermoplastic and LSR injection moulding machines and an enlarged Class 8 cleanroom for its affiliate, GW Silicones.

GW Plastics expects to add more than 70 jobs and invest in excess of $10m in property and equipment over the next 3–5 years.

In the last year, GW Plastics has completed expansions in its Bethel, Vermont; Tucson, Arizona; and Dongguan, China, facilities.

The company also plans to expand its San Antonio, Texas, facility next year as it continues to grow in the South-west with leading medical device and automotive customers.
