Qatar University awards Bio-Safety Level 3 lab contract to WorkingBuildings

The laboratory will provide a range of capabilities from research into regional public health threats to cleanroom applications


Qatar University has awarded engineering consultant The WorkingBuildings Companies a design, build, and operational contract for the region's first Biosafety Level 3 (BSL-3) laboratory at the new research complex in Doha, Qatar.

Michael Weiss, President and CEO of WorkingBuildings, headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia in the US, said the laboratory will be an important asset for the health and safety of Qatari citizens and the region as a whole and will 'greatly improve the region's capabilities to respond to a growing list of public health issues'.

The university will also be able to expand on intellectual discoveries from research.

WorkingBuildings is a leader in the delivery of critical research laboratories, CGMP facilities, and healthcare programmes globally, with capabilities ranging from programming, design, commissioning, compliance and operations.

This laboratory will provide a range of capabilities from research in regional public health threats, cleanroom applications to investigations involving biological or chemical terrorism.
