Rapid Disinfection Services introduces ASU6000 UVC sterilising system

Uses UV Germicidal Irradiation to disable pathogens in the air

A chemical-free method of sterilising hospital wards using only UVC light is now being introduced to UK GP practices by Rapid Disinfection Services.

Following the success of Tru-D, a ‘Dalek-like’ robot that kills superbugs, with its effectiveness proven by a study published in the Journal of Hospital Infection, the ASU6000 air sterilisation unit, which uses the same technology, is about to be introduced in surgery waiting rooms.

The ASU6000 uses UltraViolet Germicidal Irradiation (UVGI) technology to disable pathogens in the air. Research and development of UVGI has included long-term testing in UK hospitals, at the UK Government Health Protection Agency bio-safety test house at Porton Down and with the Pathogen Control Department at the University of Leeds.

'It’s easy to understand how deadly infections can lurk in a medical practice and public awareness of this problem has never been higher,' says Paul Mooney, MD of Rapid Disinfection Services.

'UVC light is the tried and tested natural way to deactivate bacteria before they have a chance to infect you, your staff or your patients. It’s impossible to give the best care to your patients if the working environment is making your staff ill and sick days become habitual rather than unusual.'

Standing less than one metre tall, the ASU6000 weighs only 20kg and quickly sterilises a 150m3 area to eradicate more than 99.9% of infections.

The free-standing unit is designed to hide the bacteria-killing UVC lamps behind metal grilles. The basic unit comes complete with a fixed speed fan with a manual over-ride to ‘boost’ room cleaning and purging. The unit is portable with built-in casters, allowing it to be moved from room to room quickly and quietly.
