£20,000 contract with UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology

More than 60 Tiger Rack modular shelving units have created essential storage space at the £10.5m Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH) research facility at Wallingford in Oxfordshire, UK.

With a contract value in excess of £20,000, the polypropylene-coated shelving has the hygienic and easy-to-clean properties that are an important consideration in the work of CEH.

A centre of excellence for integrated research into land and freshwater ecosystems – and part of the National Environment Research Council – CEH employs 450 people at five sites in England, Scotland and Wales.

The new 3,300m2 research facility at Wallingford includes high-grade laboratory space for chemistry and molecular biology.

Alex Reeve, an associate with architect R H Partnership of Cambridge, London and Brighton, says Tiger Rack shelving was specified for the CEH project primarily for its cleanability and to avoid corrosion in cold rooms. Ease of installation was another factor.

Tiger Rack shelving and storage systems are suitable for a range of applications where hygiene is an important consideration.

They are typically used in laboratories and cleanrooms; cold rooms and walk-in freezers; operating theatres; autoclaves; hotel and restaurant kitchens; food retailing and processing; and computer environments.

Tiger Rack is part of the Lancashire-based Doity Engineering Group of Companies, established in 1956.
