S+S Inspection redesigns Raycon system

Metal detection specialist S+S Inspection, based in Fareham, UK, has redesigned its Raycon X-ray inspection system so that it can detect a variety of metallic and non-metallic contamination in packaged and unpackaged food products.

The new machine uses the latest long-life X-ray tube and proprietary PC software. The X-ray source is configured under the conveyor, rather than over the top, to provide full product width inspection, even for tall products.

The demand of the food industry for the highest level of hygiene has been addressed with fold-away covers with safety interlocks, making cleaning easy and quick to comply with BRC, IFS and HACCP standards and retailer Codes of Practice.

New control and image processing software simultaneously inspects up to five product lines running in parallel at up to 600 items/min. An icon-based user interface on a 10-in LCD touch-screen monitor simplifies set-up and non-volatile memory will store multi-product data to facilitate product changeover.

The new Raycon is available with standard belt widths of 230 and 330mm for products up to 150mm high, and 630mm for products up to 450mm in height.

For maximum flexibility, Ethernet connectivity is provided for data transfer and remote maintenance and a USB port facilitates image saving, product and system backup and software upgrades.
