Liverpool-based biofilm and microbiology testing expert has named winner of the Merseyside Innovation Awards 2018

5D Health Protection, a contract research organisation that specialises in biofilm and microbiology testing, has won this year's Merseyside Innovation Awards (MIA). The company is based in Liverpool, UK.

Launched in 1996, MIA has recognised and rewarded companies and individuals in Merseyside, a metropolitan county in North West England, who use creativity to fuel growth and profitability.

5D Health Protection received the first prize and £10,000 cash. Judges recognised the company's innovation, research and development capabilities.

Founded in 2015, 5D Health Protection was established to address the need for biofilm testing.

Professor Steven Percival, chief executive 5D Health Protection Group, commented: "It is a true honour to receive this award in recognition of our dedicated work. I would also like to congratulate the other finalists who showed a high calibre of innovation in their respective fields."

Brian McCann, MIA founder and partner of Mitchell Charlesworth Chartered Accountants, said: "Their work in providing ground-breaking innovation, research and development is paramount in the protection of people from the detrimental effects of biofilms and microorganisms. They displayed true innovation in their efforts to attack biofilm control on all fronts during their presentation, making them a very deserving winner.

Runner-up finalists included Blinx and Oblige Global.
