Fabrinet upgrades SMT facility

The UK-based contracts electronics manufacturing solutions provider has upgraded its on-demand facility to offer a Class 8 cleanroom


Fabrinet UK, a contracts electronics manufacturing solutions provider based in Wiltshire, has upgraded its on-demand facility to offer a Class 8 cleanroom to customers.

The unit, part Fabrinet’s High Mix Low Volume manufacturing facility in the UK, is already being widely used by customers across both aerospace and defence, and telecoms sectors, the company said.

Adam White, CTO, commented: “As electronics gets smaller and smaller, so the solder joints on the PCB miniaturise in the same way. For high reliability customers, it’s imperative that we avoid any small particles like dust in the environment. We are working with a number of clients across a variety of industries who are using this space however for both medical and telecoms businesses it has proved to be a valuable addition to our offering.”

Fabrinet also operates cleanroom facilities in Thailand, which are now available to UK customers. These are both Class 7 and Class 5 cleanrooms being primarily used for optical transceiver manufacture.

According to a company statement, Fabrinet has recently started work with a print head electronics manufacturer, who has found the Thailand facility “perfect for its needs”.
