Will also sell its OEM business to Culzean Medical Devices for £600,000

Lombard Medical Technologies, a UK specialist medical technology company focused on innovative vascular products, is expanding its facility in Didcot, Oxfordshire by 10,000ft2 in an investment of £300,000 owing to increasing demand for its leading product, an endovascular stent graft called Aorfix.

The expansion will include the construction of a new cleanroom and materials handling space. It is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2014 and new jobs will be created at the site once the facility is operational.

Lombard Medical Technologies received US approval for Aorfix in February this year, which has led to growing demand. Sales in Europe are also rising and regulatory approval is anticipated for the device in Japan in the first half of 2014.

Aorfix is for the treatment of Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms (AAAs) with neck angulations up to 90 degrees.

At the same time, the firm has decided to sell its non-core OEM business based in Prestwick, Scotland to Culzean Medical Devices, also of Prestwick, for £600,000 in cash. The R&D and process development activities for Aorfix currently undertaken at the OEM business will be transferred to Didcot.

The payment will be in four annual instalments from the end of 2014 and will be used for general working capital purposes.

Under the sale terms, some employees in Scotland will transfer to support the new owner’s business activities, while others will be given the opportunity to relocate to Didcot.
