The new company, called MGS Mfg Group Ltd, will manufacture products for the computer/electronics market, along with healthcare and consumer products.
The 45,000ft2 manufacturing facility, part of the HP Technology Campus, will house around 40 electric injection-moulding machines, ranging from 100 to 350 tons.
The new facility is MGS’ fifth production moulding plant and it will also include an ISO Class 8 cleanroom for moulding and assembly operations.
General manager Michael Cummins said MGS Mfg Group Ltd was working with a number of potential suppliers of cleanroom technology and the final contract has not yet been awarded.
MGS also plans an on-site tool shop to support preventive maintenance for production moulds, repairs, engineering changes and the inspection of incoming transfer moulds. This service will also be offered to OEMs in Ireland to provide maintenance repairs of moulds they run in-house.
The Ireland facility will provide multishot (multiple material) moulding services through MGS’ Universal Multishot Systems equipment.
Other operations to be offered include sonic welding, decorating plus manual and automated assemblies.
“The strategic location of the facility, combined with the engineering and development resources of MGS, translates to a time-to-market response to our customers serving the Ireland, UK and Western European healthcare, consumer and electronics markets,” said Paul Manley, chief financial officer of MGS Mfg Group.
Production moulding began in Leixlip in June. Procedures and systems are being implemented to qualify MGS Mfg Group Ltd for ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 13485 certification in the fourth quarter.
MGS Mfg Group Ltd will be exhibiting at October’s MEDTEC event in Cork where it will introduce its services and capabilities to medical OEMs in Ireland.
