M+W Zander to build new semiconductor factory for ANGSTREM-T in Russia

Published: 27-Jun-2008

Germany-based engineering company M+W Zander FE GmbH has begun a turnkey construction project of a semiconductor factory for the Russian company ANGSTREM-T in Zelenograd near Moscow. The estimated investment being made by ANGSTREM-T is about €150m.

M+W Zander will upgrade the existing ANGSTREM wafer fab building, built in the year 1991, to enable 200mm wafer manufacturing. By the end of 2009, the new factory will be ready for equipment installation.

ANGSTREM-T JSC is part of ANGSTREM Group and aims to manufacture submicron semiconductor components with geometry design rules of 0.18 – 0.13 micron. The new production building will have a cleanroom of about 6,000 sq m – almost the area of a football pitch - where the semiconductors will be produced on wafers measuring just 200 mm in diameter.

In addition to the production building, M+W Zander will also construct a central utility building and an energy supply centre. The central utility building will supply production operations with gases, chemicals and/or ultrapure water. The energy plant will supply the facility with electricity together with hot and chilled water via a tri-generation power station fired by natural gas.

M+W Zander spokesperson Jürgen Wild, said: ‘After successful completion of the design phase, we are very pleased that ANGSTREM-T chose us as their partner for the turnkey construction of the new and modern semiconductor factory. Overall, we regard the Russian market as extremely dynamic for our future business.’

The construction company has a considerable track record in semiconductor projects; since its entry in the semiconductor business in 1966, it has constructed more than one million sq m of cleanroom area all over the world. This, it says, equates to more than 150 football grounds.
