Whether by land and sky, cleanroom sector experts began arriving in Singapore this December for the first annual “Cleanroom Technology Conference Singapore”. Held between 6-7 December, this event brought decision-makers from across the globe together at the Marina Bay Sands.
With well over 100 attendees, the event drew in professionals from across Asia. Representatives were sent from global heavyweights such as Pfizer, Rolls Royce, and Exyte Singapore to learn from the brilliant array of talks and to network with the valuable exhibitors.
In fact, the event played host to attendees from over 20 countries. This international gathering of contamination control experts had access to a great diversity of exhibitors over the course of the two day event. Between the talks from world-leading specialists, the breaks allowed meaningful conversations to take place while attendees enjoyed the variety of delicious food. This filled the exhibition floor to create a lively and enjoyable atmosphere.

Whatever the reason to attend—networking, business leads or education—the event couldn’t be called anything but a roaring success!
Day one
After a productive day of setting up on Monday, Day One of the conference began on Tuesday with excitement in the air. Exhibitors and Delegates collected their badges and headed into the ballroom. As everyone trickled in, the room slowly filled before the first of the talks, with morning greetings to start off the day.
Starting off the day’s talks was the day’s speaker Chair, Tim Triggs. As the Chairman of the Contamination Control Network and consultant with Air Techniques International, Triggs gave a talk on “Standards and Regulations: Current standards and GMP Annex 14664-1”, engaging in a fantastic Q&A at its conclusion.
The ISO14644 family of standards is evolving steadily and Tim’s talk is breaking down the logical approach to using these.

Next, prolific pharmaceutical cleanroom expert, Vivien Santillan from Novatek International gave a talk on “Aseptic processing: GMP Environmental Monitoring”. Throughout her talk, Santillan emphasised the need to use environmental monitoring for prevention as opposites to reaction. A sentiment reflected in the new Annex 1 standards. “Reliability of viable, non-viable and APS, when taken in isolation, are not enough,” she said.

Nearing the end of the day, ATi’s Chris Wang gave a talk about cleanroom testing and qualification, focusing on performance testing and Annex 1.
“Don’t just follow the number in your guidance, think about the reality of your process,” was Wang’s advice to the conference hall. “Scientific judgement is very important.”
The venue provided a great variety of dishes for attendees to eat during the breaks, which gave delegates a great opportunity to socialise around the exhibitors and ask questions in a low-pressure environment. Many Heads of Procurement were wondering the floor, so it was great to see this networking opportunity being taken full advantage of.

Interesting discussions with delegates revealed some interesting and lesser-known effects of COVID-19 on the wider business. Discussion circled around how greater demand for some products due to increased mask demand made sourcing raw materials for consumables more difficult, but also about how reductions in elective surgery hurt suppliers of disinfection for those industries. Some great insights into the cause and effect with current events on the cleanroom industry.
