Applied Nanoscience, a US supplier of nanotechnology-based air filtration products, has taken further steps towards producing its disposable NanoFense protective face mask, which offers protection against a broad spectrum of viruses, bacteria and fungi.

The company has completed initial efforts to coat rolls of filter media specified by its Asia Pacific mask partner at an unidentified coating company in the region.

ANI says this has accelerated the timeline for supplying the hydrophobic media pre-coated with its proprietary NanoFense antimicrobial nanoparticle filter coating.

"This advancement successfully demonstrates a critical internal control which will further protect the company's significant Intellectual Property investment and is a clear indication that ANI is nearing the point of having the ability to supply coated filter media incorporating our technology,” said Thomas Allen, president and ceo of ANI.

ANI has initiated material tests at two additional laboratories to broaden product claims and new patent application(s). Both projects are scheduled for completion by the end of January 2010.

The company is also focused on US patent efforts tied to its NanoFense formulation and its NEFT (nanoparticle-enhanced filtration technology).
