Troax creates packaging facilities for PCO

Uses Excalibur and Sabre partitioning for the project

Troax’s double skin, steel partitioning system, Excalibur, has been used to construct new packaging facilities for pharmaceutical distribution company PCO Manufacturing at its headquarters in County Meath, Eire. Specialist interiors contractor All Systems Commercial Fit-Outs built the packaging facilities.

PCO specialises in importing and distributing pharmaceutical prescription and over-the-counter medicines from licensed wholesalers in the EU, which it distributes to community pharmacies and hospitals throughout Ireland. Its County Meath facility is approved by the Irish Medicine Board and is one of the most advanced in the EU.

In the first phase of the project, All Systems used Excalibur partitioning to construct a series of 13 interconnecting cabins, which are built below and above a mezzanine floor. The cabins are used as pharmaceutical packaging facilities, as well as for more general use such as labelling, quality control and changing rooms for employees. Each 4x3m cabin is built from a combination of double skin steel and glass panels.

Troax’s single skin, steel Sabre partitioning has also been used to construct a floor-to-ceiling dividing wall, which acts as a physical barrier between the pharmaceutical processing area and a storage area on the ground floor.

The second phase of the project involved building an additional six cabins, together with further Sabre panels, which are used to divide the processing and storage areas.

Troax says PCO Manufacturing specified the Excalibur partitioning for the project because the panels are flush both sides and have minimal ledges and corners, reducing the collection of dust particles and ensuring easy to clean, smooth surfaces.

Excalibur’s double skin design, (the panels are of monobloc construction comprising two steel skins separated by an inert insulating infill), also offers excellent sound and heat insulation.

“Excalibur was ideal for constructing the type of high quality, cleanroom environment required by PCO,” said David Brouder of All Systems.

“With its powder-coated finish, it also looks very smart, is durable and offers a cost-effective solution for this type of project. Troax’s service is comprehensive and efficient and we are continuing to use their partitioning systems for similar projects.”
