To help equipment cleaning firms assess staffing needs and productivity levels

The American Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAM) has added new tools to its online benchmarks, aiming to help equipment cleaning companies assess staffing needs and productivity levels.

“Sterile processing staffing needs and productivity levels depend not only on the volume of tasks performed, but also on the complexity of those tasks,” said the AAMI.

The AAMI’s Sterile Processing Benchmarks (SPB) tool is a “web-based platform designed to help sterile processing departments measure their practices, policies, and resources against others.”

It will now include a productivity analysis tool, which separates tasks into categories based on their complexity. There, actual task completion times and personnel numbers used are compared with full-time equivalent (FTE) estimates provided by experts to calculate current productivity levels and overall workload intensity.

The AAMI also hopes to standardise the way error rates are calculated and interpreted using a second tool with the capability to track data provided by sterile processing departments.
