Swiss chemical and biotech ingredients manufacturer Lonza has opened a new microbial control formulations plant in Nanjing, China.

Located in China’s eastern Jiangsu province, the new state-of-the-art facility is ideally suited to service a majority of the company’s microbial control customers.

The new plant is focused on the manufacturing of formulations but is also capable of manufacturing quaternary compounds. It will strengthen Lonza’s leading position in the microbial control market and adds significant production capacity and capabilities.

The facility, which complies fully with the Chinese Ministry of Health regulations and is a US EPA registered site, will manufacture registered formulations for the hygiene, water treatment and materials protection industries. It is supported by microbiology, application and analytical labs along with regulatory services that will enable the production of customised formulations as well as Lonza formulated products.

“We are happy to have completed this strategic expansion project for our microbial control business on time and on budget. With the new facility in Nanjing we have significantly expanded our capacity and advanced our position in this critical market,” said Jeanne Thoma, head of Lonza microbial control. “The design of our facility allows us great flexibility to manufacture formulated products using a wide range of active ingredients to meet our customer’s requirements.”
