The Purell Green Certified Instant Hand Sanitiser from US-based Gojo Industries is said to be the world\'s first hand sanitiser to be certified by EcoLogo.

The Purell Green Certified Instant Hand Sanitiser from US-based Gojo Industries is said to be the world's first hand sanitiser to be certified by EcoLogo. The product, available only in the US, is made with 100% naturally renewable ethanol in a readily biodegradable formula.

EcoLogo is a third-party multi-attribute eco-labelling program approved by the Global Ecolabelling Network, an international association of eco-labelling programmes, as meeting the ISO 14024 standard. EcoLogo certification acknowledges that Gojo’s product meets the Instant Hand Antiseptic Products standard (CCD-170) for environmental leadership.

EcoLogo was established in 1988 and is now one of the most recognisable eco-labels in North America.

Purell Green Certified Instant Hand Sanitiser also meets the USDA BioPreferred programme for biobased content.

Purell Green, available in gel and foam, kills 99.99% of most common germs that may cause illness, and helps condition skin with a natural moisturiser in a fragrance-free and dye-free formulation, the company says.

The product is part of a complete portfolio of Gojo Green Hygiene solutions promoting health and wellbeing while reducing environmental impact. It is packaged in a lightweight, recyclable PET bottle made with 30% less material and the same durability as standard HDPE bottles.

“The leadership shown by Gojo helps to ensure greener hand sanitisers with biobased content are available to better protect human and environmental health,” said Angela Griffiths of EcoLogo.

Gojo is a privately held corporation headquartered in Akron, Ohio, with offices in the UK, Japan and Brazil.

Purell is a trademark of Johnson & Johnson and is used under licence.
