Will renovate Nuclear Medicine Pharmacy

HWI Global, a Pittsburgh, US-based design/builder of cleanrooms, has started a contract to provide USP 797 consultation and interior fit and finish services for the new University of North Carolina (UNC) Nuclear Medicine Pharmacy renovation at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill, NC.

The renovation of the Nuclear Medicine Pharmacy, an area of pharmacy practice dedicated to the compounding and dispensing of radioactive materials for use in nuclear medicine procedures, is an expansion of UNC Hospitals' School of Nuclear Medicine.

UNC Hospitals began as North Carolina Memorial Hospital in 1952 and has grown to become a major academic medical centre, dedicated to providing advanced healthcare in patient care and medical research.

Deric Haddad, chief executive of HWI Global said: “When HWI learned it had a chance to work with UNC Hospitals, an institution that provides health services for the entire state of North Carolina, we created a new division of speciality within our infrastructure to facilitate this exceptional organisation.

“We always look for the opportunity to expand our cleanroom expertise into specialised areas such as nuclear medicine pharmacies that dispense radiopharmaceuticals.

MHA Works, a healthcare architectural firm in Durham, NC, chose HWI for the project.

Haddad expects more projects of this type in the future.
