Will build the IV preparation room in the new hospital pharmacy

HWI Global, a Pittsburgh, US-based designer and builder of cleanrooms, has been awarded the contract to provide specialist construction services for Mount Sinai Hospital in New York.

The firm will begin work on equipping the hospital’s new sub-cellar Level 2 pharmacy during the fourth quarter.

This is the second USP 797 upgrade that HWI has worked on at Mount Sinai Hospital. In 2007, the firm was subcontracted by New York-based Clean Room Depot to provide interior fit-up for the 6th floor pharmacy. US federal mandate USP 797 requires hospital pharmacies to conduct compounded sterile preparations in ISO classified cleanrooms. HWI currently holds the annual preventative maintenance contract for the 6th floor pharmacy cleanroom.

HWI Global’s chief executive Deric Haddad said the firm would employ its Open Architecture Sterile Compounding design technique for the IV preparation room in the new pharmacy.

HWI will also be providing its complete portfolio of Bio-Gard products, from its aseptic wall system to other customised accessories and casework. A full-time particle monitoring and data-logging system will also be installed to validate the room's high-level performance.

“This will truly be a showcase setting HWI apart when it comes to USP 797 projects in the cleanroom industry,” said Haddad. “And, there's no better place to do it than at Mount Sinai on the Upper East Side.”

Mitchell Architectural Group of Southbury, Connecticut specified HWI for this project. The firm has entered into a specialist subcontract with New York City-based Morgan Construction Enterprises.
