WuXi Biologics has awarded Ardmac the specialist cleanroom construction on the biggest biopharma manufacturing facility to be built in Ireland.

The Chinese CDMO has commenced developing a purpose-built facility at the IDA's 26-hectare site at Mullagharlin in Dundalk, Co. Louth. WuXi’s facility has been described as the "Factory of the Future" by Taoiseach Leo Varadkar and is the first sizable greenfield project from China in the pharma sector.

Jason Casey, Associate Director at Ardmac, commented: “We are delighted to have been selected as preferred contractor for the WuXi facility. This is an exciting time for Dundalk and we are delighted to be a part of their story in Ireland.”

Ardmac is expected to employ over 200 people over the course of the project at Dundalk, with completion expected by 2021. The contract includes the completion of 15,000 sqm of cleanroom footprint.

WuXi Biologics is a global open-access biologics technology platform company and will establish this new biologics drug substance manufacturing facility in Dundalk.

Headquartered in Wuxi City, China, WuXi Biologics has become a well-known name in the development and manufacturing of pharmaceuticals.

The company will also install the world's largest facility using single-use bioreactors at its new Dundalk base.

The project will be deployed using Ardmac's SMART delivery model, implementing lean principles and techniques coupled with the implementation of the latest digital field collaboration software to support the build efficiently.

Ardmac also recently announced the launch of its partnership with US company Germfree to bring Germfree’s bioGO mobile and modular cleanroom buildings to the European markets.
