Basan chooses UK for new operation

Distributor of cleanroom products and equipment, basan, has opened a UK office.

Russ Bird, former worldwide director of cleanroom products at Metron Technology, has taken an interest in the venture and will head up the operations based in Basingstoke, Hampshire. An additional warehouse in Macclesfield, Cheshire, is due to open shortly. The UK branch will be the company's fourth alongside operations in Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium, and the company claims to be the European market leader in cleanrooms and services with 20 years experience in the pharmaceutical, semiconductor and food sectors. Basan says opportunities to further the company's growth strategy were examined in other countries, including France, but many suppliers indicated they would appreciate a location in the UK. Commenting on the link-up with Russ Bird, the company says: "He has been in the cleanroom industry for over 20 years and has a great deal of experience in creating and developing international cleanroom distribution in both Asia and Europe. The co-operation between basan and Russ Bird offers clients the high level of quality basan continually strives for." Basan's portfolio includes wipers, reusable and disposable garments, gloves, mats and cleaning products, as well as laminar flow devices, air showers, furniture, ionisation systems, vacuum cleaners, cleaning systems and materials. It also offers a range of services such as logistics, local warehousing and vendor managed inventory systems, and has its own cleanroom for evaluation, inspection and testing purposes.
