Kemtile has provided an extensive overhaul of flooring at one of the leading UK sites of a global pharma company.
The brief from the firm, which specialises in the manufacture of life critical pharmaceutical products, included a review of an existing floor, which was starting to show signs of age, and to improve anti-slip properties.
Flooring installation experts at Kemtile arranged to grind the old floor thoroughly and vacuum before examining the whole area for blemishes and holes.
“The floor had stood up pretty well to wear and tear over several years,” said Kemtile’s Ken Dale, “but we set to work on a few areas that needed repairing.”
They recommended Stonhard PM5 to make good the blemishes, a high-strength grout which comes in urethane, epoxy, and vinyl ester formulations for use in varying industrial and commercial environments, including pharma.
The non-shrink grout eliminates issues such as cracking or settling which may be seen when spaces are filled with concrete or other materials.
Making sure the surface was clean and sound the team applied the grout, used a steel finishing trowel to cover fill holes and voids, and allowed it to cure.
Then the team proceeded to tape all doorways before applying a coat of Stonhard HT primer and leaving to cure overnight. A coat of Stonkote HT4 in pewter grey was then finally applied, incorporating texture to give the floor its required anti-slip properties.
Ken again: “This final coating also injects new life into an existing floor, making it easier to clean and maintain, more resistant to abrasion, chemicals and thermal shock.”
The job was completed in just three days to reduce downtime at the busy pharma facility.
Kemtile has been a specialist supplier to the pharma and cleanroom industry for over 40 years, providing high performance, hygienic flooring to ensure sterility, prevent contamination, and comply with strict industry standards.
