Howorth Medical is proud to be part of a new £1bn healthcare facility construction programme

Howorth Medical is proud to be part of a new healthcare facility construction programme worth around £1bn.

The project is the largest ever construction project for main contractor Skanska and is with Barts and The London New Hospitals Programme. It is also the largest PFI Healthcare scheme ever to be signed in the UK.

The scheme incorporates the redevelopment of St Bartholomew’s Hospital in the City of London and The Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel, which, when complete, will deliver world-class healthcare provision for the people of the City of London, east London and beyond.

Howorth Medical will provide 10 Exflow 32 canopies to be used in the new operating theatres. This is the larger of the Howorth Exflow canopies, providing an Ultra Clean operating zone of 3.2m x 3.2m. This means that the entire operating team, with all their instrument tables, can be accommodated beneath the canopy.

Despite the increase of nearly 50% in the volume of air generated by this Exflow, the design of this new self-contained unit, with its four integral fans, achieves a noise level approaching 50 Dba, which is up to 5 Dba below the level set by the HTM 2025.
