Everdisplay opens US$4.5b AMOLED display plant in China

New facility is Shanghai’s biggest industrial cleanroom

Technology firm Everdisplay Optronics (EDO) has opened a 27.3 billion yuan (US$4.2 billion) AMOLED display plant that boasts Shanghai's biggest industrial cleanroom, Shanghai news website SHINE has reported.

As a new generation of display technology, AMOLED provides not only more colourful visual effect, but also is capable of flexible display, which will meet the needs of the next generation of mobile terminal and wearble devices.

The 390,000 sq m facility has been set up to produce screens for smartphones and VR devices.

EDO’s new fab features 320,000 sq m of industrial cleanroom, the largest in Shanghai.

Monthly capacity is expected to hit 30,000 units once operations are in full swing. The plant supports flexible display, representing the most advanced display technology on the Chinese mainland.

The company will test equipment in the plant before starting trial production in 2019, it said.

AMOLED screens are widely used in smartphones, TVs, laptops, tablets, wearable as well as VR devices, and market demand is booming.

Founded in 2012, Everdisplay's products are used by top smartphone vendors including Huawei and Xiaomi.
