Stancold's cleanroom team completes pharma refrigeration contract

The CREST team has finished work on environments that will be utilised for the storage of temperature-critical pharmaceutical products

Stancold CREST team has recently completed a project to efficiently and safely build a chiller and adjacent ambient area within a warehouse in the South East. Alongside insulated Kingspan Quadcore panelling to form the rooms, the scope of this contract included refrigeration, lighting, doors and door protection.

As Stancold's dedicated entity to critical environment construction for over 5 years, the Clean Room Envelope Specialist Team (CREST) have gained a thorough understanding of the pharmaceutical industry's needs across the UK and have clearly demonstrated capabilities necessary to facilitate the manufacture and storage of high-value medicinal products.

We were working within a live distribution centre

These environments will be utilised for the storage of temperature-critical pharmaceutical products and aid the client's compliance for good distribution practice (GDP).

Multiple site surveys were required at different stages of the project; initially to meet with the client's project team and gain a better understanding of the site conditions, before CREST's own projects team returned to re-survey and confirm minor design changes once the order was placed. This is a key aspect of Stancold's offering for such bespoke projects and ensures that the team are well prepared for a timely construction.

While the site itself had good access and a clear working area, there were a number of additional factors to consider once the build was underway. Stancold CREST's Senior Contracts Manager, Lee Duffield, was responsible for overseeing the project.

"We were working within a live distribution centre so daily coordination meetings with our client were necessary to ensure minimal disruption to their day-to-day operations," said Duffield. "Our team were installing the facility under a mezzanine too, so had a low ceiling area and tight access to consider, which also meant that coordination of the refrigeration and HVAC element had to be carefully planned to accommodate."

However, the team are well-versed in overcoming such intricacies and worked hard to successfully deliver the project according to a client's programme of works.

Stancold CREST's strong reputation within temperature-controlled construction for pharmaceutical, medical and high-end manufacturing disciplines is credit to the company's combined problem-solving approach, attention-to-detail and technical expertise for bespoke projects.
