Quick-Med Technologies receives US patent on Stay Fresh antimicrobial
Technology is based on hydrogen peroxide
Quick-Med Technologies, a US developer of antimicrobial technologies, has received a patent from the US Patent and Trademark Office for its Stay Fresh antimicrobial technology.
“It is very exciting to receive this allowance, which confirms the unique nature of our Stay Fresh antimicrobial technology,” said Bernd Liesenfeld, president of Quick-Med Technologies.
“This allows us to offer our partners a very well protected licence position for our unique hydrogen peroxide based antimicrobial, which is already EPA-registered.”
The Gainsville, Florida-based firm says Stay Fresh technology is eco-friendly, safe, non-toxic, and cost effective. It uses a hydrogen peroxide antimicrobial agent that degrades to eco-friendly water and oxygen.
Textiles treated with Stay Fresh have been proven to retain antimicrobial activity for as many as 100 wash cycles, with up to a 99.9999% reduction of bacterial levels.
Originally developed to meet the demanding requirements of a military uniform application, Quick-Med began its Stay Fresh commercialisation efforts with apparel and other consumer textile applications. The company has since expanded its focus to include medical devices and has filed a 510(k) Premarket Notification with the US Food and Drug Administration for a device that incorporates Stay Fresh antimicrobial technology.
