To develop long life LED lighting for cleanrooms

HWI Global, a US designer and builder of cleanrooms, has signed a Letter of Intent to form a joint venture with Enigma Concepts, a US technical research and development company, to develop a new ‘green’ cleanroom lighting solution.

Pittsburgh-based HWI Global says the innovative long-life LED lighting system will be a cleaner, more efficient, better quality light than the most advanced CFL and T-S fluorescents. It will also be brighter than conventional lighting, while reducing eyestrain, power consumption and radiant heat in cleanroom environments.

Erik McMillan, chief executive of Enigma Concepts, said: “Design and prototyping are already underway with very promising first test results. Once preliminary data acquisition is gathered for this unique LED system, the actual production fixture development will begin and the system combined with the fixture for the final testing and evaluation. It is our desire to create a lasting partnership with HWI further implementing enhancements to their cleanroom technologies.”

Deric Haddad, chief executive of HWI Global, added: “The cleanroom industry has failed for decades to truly implement a 'green’ solution to traditional fluorescent and incandescent lighting. Although we've seen considerable movement in our industry toward LED lighting, none of it takes the innovative approach for heat removal and light dispersion that we see with the system being developed by Enigma Concepts.”

HWI Global says the new LED system is expected to extend the life of the lighting element, reduce the number of fixtures required, lower the amount of energy used by each fixture when compared with traditional lighting, provide energy saving dimming techniques, and reduce the heat-loads placed on the interior environment causing significant reduction in air-conditioning use.
