$2 billion to be spent on Taiwan fabs

The Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Ltd. has announced plans to build two plants to produce 12-inch wafers at a cost of $1.8 billion. The facilities will go up in an extended zone of the Hsinchu Science-based Industrial Park located in Hsinchu County. Some 30 companies have indicated their interest in building billions of dollars worth of facilities in the 395-acre science park.
