Airedale co-ordinates services for catheter lab

Published: 17-Apr-2006

Ealing NHS Trust has just taken delivery of the latest catheter laboratory completed by Kier Southern and Airedale Environmental Services.

The Level 3 area was previously part of the Pathology Department, which underwent a complete refurbishment. Airedale completed the installation and co-ordination of all the services including air conditioning, medical gases, electrical, plumbing and heating.

A new Moducel air handling unit was installed on the Level 4 roof serving the catheter laboratory, recovery, scrub and utility room. All the other rooms are served from wet central heating connected to the existing system.

The eight bed recovery suite included two high dependency beds. Bedhead trunking was provided and all beds house medical gases, isolated power, sockets and nurse call. Controls were part of the Trend BMS system and a Bender surgeons panel was installed in the catheter laboratory.

The catheter laboratory was opened for patients in January 2006. Airedale continues to work with Kier Southern and is undertaking the mechanical and electrical enabling works for a modular MRI department due for completion in April 2006.

These works include the replacement of chillers and condensers, new lighting and ventilation to corridors and offices including air handling plant (again supplied by Moducel). They will also provide all services to serve the MRI department include domestic water, sub-mains, medical gases and fire alarm.

The project has required careful planning and co-ordination to minimise disruption to the normal hospital activities.
