Airless pack concept keeps fragile formulae fresh
Norwegian plastics packaging manufacturer Polimoon, which recently acquired Plastohm, has launched and airless packaging system aimed at the pharmaceutical sector.
AirFree claims to be the only one-part airless packaging solution manufactured in a single process and is the result of four years of r&d costing more than €1m. It consists of a rigid external wall and collapsible, flexible inner pouch and is made using conventional coextrusion technology. It is manufactured from a range of materials with barrier properties, such as EVOH, and requires no special filling equipment.
The system can evacuate 95-97% of the contents, compared with only 86% for a conventional airless pump system filled with a viscous cream, Polimoon says. Sizes from 15-500ml are possible in a variety of bottle shapes and colours.
