AsepticSure trials demonstrate eradication of super bugs
Medizone International of San Francisco, US reports that the first full-scale trial of its AsepticSure hospital sterilisation system has resulted in the elimination of all bacteria present in the room.
Medizone has been evaluating the system in a mock-up hospital facility. The firm’s scientific team will now attempt to confirm, in a more realistic hospital setting, laboratory findings that have shown high antibacterial effectiveness for its AsepticSure technology (6–7.2 log reductions) against the main cause of hospital acquired infections. Dr Michael Shannon, Medizone's director of medical affairs said the company would now collect empirically verifiable scientific data on all the remaining causes of HAIs. “While more testing and data acquisition must be completed before moving into hospital beta testing, it now seems certain that AsepticSure will deliver as promised,” he said.
Edwin Marshall, Medizone’s ceo, added: “One of our concerns from the beginning has been the protection of the very expensive electronics found throughout hospitals. We have been testing electronic devices exposed to our process from the very beginning of our laboratory trials. It is encouraging to note that one highly sensitive electronic instrument has now undergone more than 50 exposures to our protocol, many at much higher ozone concentrations than we are now using, and it still performs as if it were brand new.”
