BioCote in partnership with Dyson
Wolverhampton, UK-based technology company BioCote have formed a partnership with innovative appliances firm Dyson to use its anti-contaminant technology in the new Dyson Airblade hand dryer.
Dyson claims that the Airblade is “the most hygienic hand dryer on the market and more than twice as fast as conventional hand dryers.” Silver-based antimicrobial technology from BioCote will be used on all external surfaces of the Airblade, and the company says it “will reduce the levels of bacteria such as MRSA by up to 99.9%.
Airborne contamination from bacteria is a problem in washrooms, where Dyson's new product will be used. Its Dyson Digital Motor (DDM) produces an air stream flowing at 400 miles per/hr, channelled through a 0.3 milimetre gap to dry hands quickly and hygienically.
“The Airblade removes bacteria and mould from the air using HEPA filtration,” said company founder James Dyson.
“Waste water is passed through an iodine resin filter to disinfect it, and Piezo crystal technology releases the sterilised water as a harmless invisible mist,” Dyson added. BioCote and Dyson have biologically and scientifically tested the product, and the antimicrobial efficacy of the Airblade has been independently proven by IMSL laboratories.
The new hand dryer will be available to buy or lease in the UK and Ireland from November 2006.
