The full-service provider has opened a new facility near the Austrian border to ensure reliable supplies for customers in southern Germany, Austria, and Eastern Europe

CWS Cleanrooms has opened a new cleanroom laundry in Burghausen, in Germany.

The full-service provider and reliable partner for contamination control throughout Europe opened the newly built cleanroom laundry in March 2024.

The new facility in Burghausen, Bavaria, commenced operations for the cleanroom textiles and accessories service sector.

Building this facility marks a major investment for CWS in resource-saving technologies and the cleanroom growth market.

Focus on sustainable production and optimised logistics

"We are delighted to be able to open another cleanroom laundry in Burghausen, Bavaria. With our investment in the site, we are taking an important step for the future. We have created a state-of-the-art production facility that guarantees reliability and compliance with quality standards. We have also focused on sustainability right from the start: the geographical proximity to our customers in southern Germany, Austria and Eastern Europe will make us even better logistically and bring us even closer to our customers. This helps us to save significant amounts of CO2," said Markus Schad, CEO of CWS Cleanrooms.

The start of operations went smoothly: "We were able to start production on schedule on 19 March."

Since then, CWS has been washing under the best conditions in Burghausen.

"With the help of our modern equipment, we achieve the best possible washing results and at the same time work resource-efficiently. For example, we minimise our water and electricity consumption with heat converters and quick steam generators," added Andreas Winkler, Site Manager in Burghausen.

"We also have a photovoltaic system on the roof to generate our own electricity from the sun, as well as electric charging stations for cars. With the addition of these washing capacities, we will also be able to meet the growing demands of our customers in the future," Winkler added.

Facts about the site

Planning commenced in August 2021 and construction work started in spring 2022.

The cleanroom laundry, designed according to the latest standards, is located on an area of approximately 6,000 sqm in Burghausen. The production hall was constructed in accordance with efficiency building standard 40.

The cleanroom is certified to ISO Class 5 (in operation)

The cleanroom is certified to ISO Class 5 (in operation). This standard specifies the maximum permitted quantity of particles of a certain size within a defined space. The building is ISO 9001 certified and has also been certified to environmental standard 14001.

The laundry has a capacity of approx. 20,000 items per day. The Burghausen site is the fourth German CWS laundry to process textiles and accessories under cleanroom conditions.

Other German sites are in Reutlingen, Radeburg and Lauterbach.
