Connector improves drug manufacturing

Maintaining sterility in aseptic processing to ensure product safety and regulatory compliance is a costly and demanding process. Now biopharmaceutical producers can make aseptic connections quickly and safely using the new Kleenpak Connector from Pall Life Sciences. The device shortens the total time for connection to less than 30 seconds and its innovative design eliminates the need for laminar flow hoods required for other quick connection devices. The purchase, qualification and maintenance of capital equipment required for other connection methods such as tube welders is also eliminated. After sterilisation by steam or gamma irradiation, the hydrophobic porous peel-away strip protects the sterility of the device and attachments prior to connection. The connector has a wide range of applications such as sterile connections to bioreactors, fluid transfer between stainless steel or glass vessels and links between cleanroom suites. Most importantly, it is an essential building block for single-use disposable systems containing filter capsules, flexible bags and other components that eliminate the need for cleaning and cleaning validation.
