CTCB signs co-operation agreements

Published: 20-Jan-2004

The Cleanroom Certification and Training Board (CTCB) initiative, established by the Scottish Society for Contamination Control (S2C2), is now two years old and has 70 people registered in the UK for certification. The knowledge and expertise gained by CTCB is now being passed onto other countries in Europe. To that end, agreements have now been signed between CTCB and both the Irish Cleanroom Society (ICS) and R3 Nordic, which is the cleanroom society that draws its members from Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland. This agreement allows ICS and R3 Nordic to teach and examine cleanroom facility engineers and independent testers, and certify as to their knowledge to carry out the certification of cleanrooms. The agreement requires CTCB to supply teaching notes for use by students as distance learning material, so that the same standard of written and practical exams as CTCB can be achieved. CTCB certification will now be jointly awarded by CTCB together with either ICS or R3 Nordic. The certification of candidates by R3 Nordic will be carried out at the Royal Institute of Technology, of Stockholm, Sweden, under the supervision of Professor Bengt Ljungqvist and Dr Berit Reinmuller, and the ICS under the supervision of Peter Fernie and Conor Murray. ICS and R3 Nordic will now provide representation in the CTCB Advisory Board. The CTCB Board presently contains UK experts involved in testing cleanrooms, many being on the BSI cleanroom committee and representing the UK as experts on ISO cleanroom standards committees. This Board oversees the syllabus of the course and examines the candidates. It therefore maintains the high standard of the examinations and certification. The addition of representatives from ICS and R3 Nordic will extend this expertise and further promote internationalisation of cleanroom testing methods that has been initiated by the ISO 14644 series of standards on cleanrooms. A cleanroom testing certification course has just been completed by ICS in Ireland. It was held close to Dublin from November 18-20.
