EU ministers asked to impose protection duties on key cleaning chemical

The European Union (EU) Council of Ministers has been asked to levy heavy anti-dumping duties on exports to the EU from the US, China and Taiwan of chemicals called peroxosulphates (persulphates), widely used for cleaning.

One variant, KMPS, disinfects swimming pools, while other types – such as potassium peroxymonosulphate – are used for a range of cleaning and disinfection applications.

The European Commission fears cut-priced exports of these chemicals are damaging EU producers and has asked EU ministers to impose 39% anti-dumping duties on US exports, 71.8% on Chinese sales and 22.6% on those from Taiwan, albeit with significantly lower tariffs for two US, two Chinese and one Taiwanese company.
