FM friendly wet process benches
Laminar Flow Systems has recently manufactured and installed a suite of wet benches constructed from Corzan® 4910 CPVC and stainless steel that pass the stringent FM protocol on fire resistance. Thought to be one of the first installations of its kind in the UK, the Corzan® wet benches and the stainless steel bench are designed to integrate as a suite to provide a fully customised process area whilst remaining "fire safe". Factory Mutual Research has developed tests for cleanroom materials which determines which engineered plastic materials can best reduce property loss in the event of a fire. The materials must also emit little, if any, smoke and produce little, if any, corrosive byproducts. The material used in the construction of these benches satisfies all of these requirements and is listed in the FM approval guide. Benches are fitted with a range of processing equipment and tanks and are complete with compressed air, nitrogen, vacuum and DI water services to provide a comprehensive facility that can be used for a wide variety of specialist research and production applications. All work surfaces and tanks were constructed from PVDF to maintain the fire resistant properties and increased chemical resistance throughout the whole construction. The benches also incorporated Low Extract technology to lower the volume of make up air required to the area and keep maintenance costs to a minimum.
