Getinge and SteriPro International have entered a new strategic partnership to accelerate the adoption of off-site sterile-processing services across the US.
“We are thrilled for this partnership and the ability to offer hospitals across North America a more complete, end-to-end pathway for optimising sterile processing," said Julia Elner, Senior National Director Sales for Surgical Workplaces, Infection Control and Digital Health Solutions, North America.
The agreement brings together two complementary strengths: Getinge’s global leadership in sterilisation equipment, automation and digital traceability, and SteriPro’s large-scale, accredited reprocessing operations and consulting expertise.
For hospitals strained by staffing shortages, ageing facilities, and increasing surgical volumes, off-site sterile processing is a scalable alternative to traditional in-house workflows.
The companies describe the collaboration as an opportunity to deliver a unified, “end-to-end” model that blends advanced technology with operational reliability.
Demand for high-quality sterile instruments
SteriPro, based in Mississauga, Ontario, operates one of the US’s largest accredited off-site reprocessing centres and has spent more than a decade supporting hospitals with workflow design, validation, quality management, compliance, and logistics.
Getinge manufactures sterilisers, washers, automated transport and digital platforms that track surgical instruments through every step of reprocessing.
According to the companies, the combined offering is intended to raise the bar for quality, standardisation and reproducibility, which are persistent challenges for sterile processing departments under regulatory scrutiny.
Many of the principles used in these off-site sterile processing facilities, such as controlled airflow, HEPA filtration, validated workflows, and rigorous contamination control, are closely aligned with cleanroom technologies commonly used in pharmaceutical, biotech, and high-tech manufacturing environments.
The US market for hospital sterilisation services is projected to reach $1.46bn in 2024, according to research by Grand View Research.
Experts attribute the growth to rising surgical procedures, more hospital-acquired infections, an ageing population, and tighter regulatory standards.
These trends drive hospitals’ need for high-quality sterile instruments and reliable sterilisation services.
What is ahead?
Getinge noted that the collaboration opens the door for hospitals to adopt a more integrated and predictable sterile-processing pathway.
SteriPro highlighted plans to expand its model of “Reprocessing Centers of Excellence.”
These would be facilities built around rigorous accreditation standards and a culture of continuous improvement.
“Together with Getinge, we are redefining what safe, scalable, and resilient sterile processing looks like for hospitals, built on a new generation of off-site Reprocessing Centers of Excellence,” said Ajay K Jain, Managing Partner at SteriPro International
In addition to expanding off-site sterile processing, Getinge is also leveraging digital innovations to support hospital workflows.
The company’s new Servo TwinView “virtual twin” for ventilators allows ICU teams to monitor and analyse near real-time data remotely, helping reduce room entries and easing staff workloads.
