Getting the measure of bulk powders

Published: 17-Apr-2006

Hosokawa has introduced a new version of its Powder Characteristics Tester laboratory unit for use where powders are processed and handled in bulk.

It can measure seven characteristics: angle of repose, compressibility, angle of spatula, cohesion, angle of fall, dispersibility and angle of difference. Three auxiliary values – aerated bulk density, packed bulked density and uniformity – can also be evaluated.

The new version PT-S offers increased accuracy and improved cleanability as the inner wall of the machine is now part of the structure. It is also easier and quicker to use with less potential for operator error.

In the new version the angle of repose and angle of spatula can now quickly be measured automatically, using a CCD (charge coupled device ) camera and image processing which improves the accuracy of measurement.
