Japan-based Hamamatsu Photonics has announced plans to boost production capacity of 6-inch silicon wafers by adding a new cleanroom connected to the existing one by a clean passage

To meet the rapidly growing demand for opto-semiconductor products, Hamamatsu Photonics has announced it will construct a new factory building at its main factory site located in in Japan to handle pre-processing steps in the manufacture of opto-semiconductors.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new factory building will be held on Friday, June 30, 2023, and the new factory building is scheduled for completion in June 2025.

The new factory building's cleanroom will be connected to the existing factory building's cleanroom via a clean passage

Hamamatsu Photonics has been supplying opto-semiconductor products for a diverse range of fields including medical, industrial, and automotive applications. Since all signs point to an ever-increasing demand for opto-semiconductor products, the company will construct this new building at our main factory site in Ichino-cho, Higashi-ku, Hamamatsu City to boost pre-processing stage production capacity.

Constructing this new factory building will nearly double production space.

Hamamatsu Photonics will construct a new factory building at its main factory site to boost production capacity in the opto-semiconductor device market our current production lines for conventional 6-inch silicon wafers.

"We will be running a production line compatible with 8-inch diameter wafers in the new factory building to ensure production continuity while also streamlining production and cutting costs.," the company stated.

The new factory building makes use of an earthquake-resistant structure

The new factory building's cleanroom will be connected to the existing factory building's cleanroom via a clean passage. This will allow the quick and smooth movement of people and materials as well as automate the manufacturing process and save workforce time thanks to an automated conveyor system.

The new factory building makes use of an earthquake-resistant structure for better resilience in responding to natural disasters and will also include eco-friendly manufacturing equipment.

"We are also constructing another new factory building for the device post-processing stage at our Shingai Factory site located in Shingai-cho, Minami-ku, Hamamatsu City in Japan. Upgrading our production system including this investment will support our continued business growth in the future. "
