Intel opens high-tech fab in Ireland

US-based computer technology company Intel has opened an advanced, high-volume semiconductor manufacturing facility in Leixlip, Ireland.

The factory cost US$2bn and has begun production of the company’s multi-core microprocessors. It is the most technologically advanced Intel fab (named Fab 24-2) and the third to utilise 65nm process technology alongside Fab 12 in Arizona and D1D in Oregon.
