Maintaining lab Integra-ty

Integra Biosciences has launched Vacusafe comfort, a vacuum system specifically developed for easy and rapid aspiration, disposal or filtration of biohazardous liquids.

Incorporating a pump unit, waste collection bottle, tubing and Vacuboy hand operator in an all-in-one, compact instrument, the device readily fits below all commercially available laminar flow cabinets and is easy to move. It collects liquid waste in a chemical and pressure resistant bottle, and offers various bottle/lid configurations, including 3-litre glass or 4-litre polypropylene bottles, both of which – along with all other components that come in to contact with the aspirated liquid – may be autoclaved. A hydrophobic filter on the back of the device ensures that no aspirated material, including aerosols containing bacteria or viruses, can find their way into the pump housing or out into the surrounding laboratory environment. An optional filling status sensor has also been fitted to ensure that the device will switch off once the collection bottle is full. The pump also switches off automatically once the target vacuum, which is set manually, has been reached. Noise emission is less than 50 dB, well below the level described in regulations for safety cabinets, while a rounded shape and smooth surfaces permit easy cleaning.
