Major orders for M+W

Published: 29-Jul-2002

M+W Zander has received two major orders from the semiconductor industry. The company received a follow-up order from the U.S. chip manufacturer, Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. (AMD), which is expanding its Dresden plant to include a state-of-the-art technology and production center. As the project´s general contractor, M+W Zander is to oversee the technical equipment for the facility in a contract amounting to approximately 40m euros. The German construction company won the contract to engineer and construct AMD´s microchip Fab 30 in Dresden in 1996 and installed the machinery to the facility´s supply systems in 1998. M+W Zander also planned and constructed the chip factory´s extension wing in 2000. The new technology and production centre will be equipped with approximately 2,100m2 in cleanroom surface area, increasing the Dresden facilities´ cleanroom area to a total of approximately 14,000m2. The project is to be completed by the end of 2002. M+W will also engineer and construct a new photomask centre in Dresden for the three technology groups, Infineon Technologies, Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) und DuPont Photomasks, in an order amounting to 68m euros. The company is responsible for the complete planning and construction. Lithographic photomasks are to be developed at the new plant for technology nodes of 90/65 nanometers and for future technologies to come. Production is to begin in the middle of 2003 at the new complex, which is being constructed in close proximity to Infineon and AMD´s Dresden plants.
