MEMS plant to be built in China
Provider of CMOS-based MEMS accelerometers/sensors, MEMSIC Inc, has announced that "in order to better meet market demand and satisfy the growing consumer market", it has purchased 3.24 hectares (8 acres) of land in Wuxi, China for the creation of a new manufacturing facility.
The company says the 43000 ft2 facility will be fully operational and qualified by ISO standards before the end of 2003. Total investment is €2.74million and the new facility will include a Class 100 clean room for the MEMS manufacturing process and a front-end process pilot line. The company says the latter will comprise of a packaging pilot line for "low cost and innovative packaging development" and a production test line for new product development. "MEMSIC's successful entry into the acceleration and motion sensing market greatly reduced product cost, and the sudden affordability of our innovative technology to the market stimulated rapid growth," said MEMSIC CEO, Dr. Yang Zhao. "Investing and expanding our manufacturing capacity indicates our long term commitment to our customers and the market, where the demand for our stiction and particle free MEMS construction has exploded."
