New York has beaten 10 US states to land a $435m Institute for Nanoelectronics Discovery and Exploration (INDEX).

It will be located at the state university at Albany's College of Nanoscale Science and Engineering campus. INDEX, which is receiving $80m in state matching funds, will be located in a new 250,000ft2 building at the university's Albany NanoTech research site and will include a 100,000ft2 cleanroom wing. The workforce at Albany NanoTech is expected to triple from 700 to 2,100 by 2007. Keenan Development of Columbia is committing $50m to the project.
