New disinfectant uses nanotechnology
Medical chemicals company MediChem, based in Kent in the UK, has unveiled a powerful anti-infection formulation, TriGene ADVANCE, aimed at the veterinary sector.
The new disinfectant is claimed to be a ‘first’ in hygiene science, with a formulation using faster and more effective antipathogens delivered by nanotechnology carriers to target areas previously inaccessible to conventionally formulated products.
According to MediChem’s managing director, Rick Hayman, the new formulation is not only an important advance in animal hygiene, but is also set to be a crucial weapon in the fight against infection in other healthcare sectors.
The launch of TriGene ADVANCE comes in the wake of increases of transmission of MRSA within veterinary practice and the impending threat from the H5N1 strain of avian influenza.
“The discovery of bird flu in Britain has concentrated many people’s minds,” said Hayman. “Heightened concerns about hygiene in veterinary practices as well as in hospitals have put huge pressures on staff to greatly improve their use of disinfectants. The development of TriGene ADVANCE is a crucially important new weapon the fight against infection.”
The TriGene ADVANCE formula uses micro-emulsion nanoparticles that enable the new formulation to penetrate cell walls more quickly and easily. The EC-approved enhanced active-ingredient molecules are conveyed through the unique nanoparticulate carrier-delivery system to penetrate previously impermeable surfaces and crenulations and reach hitherto inaccessible areas of potential infection. Such rapid penetration ensures equally rapid cell destruction.
“With its ability to penetrate surfaces more quickly and deeply than before, preventative infection control has now another weapon in its arsenal against resistant micro-organisms,” said Hayman.
