New Mériel disinfectants to combat bird flu
INZO subsidiary Mériel Laboratoire, a French firm that specialises in animal healthcare, has produced a range of disinfectants that have proved effective in the fight against the avian flu virus.
Mériel’s Prophyl and Aseptol disinfectants were tested by the Department of Veterinary Medicine in Taichung, Taiwan in December 2005 on hen’s eggs inoculated with the virus. The disinfectants were diluted in hard water, and with the presence of 5% interfering matter Prophyl was shown to be effective at 0.4% (1 litre of Prophyl to 250 litres of water), and Aseptol at less than 0.4%.
The disinfectants will be retailed as four separate products (Prophyl 75, Prophyl 2000, Aseptol Pro and Aseptol DDA), and will provide poultry farmers with a variety of disinfectant sprays for everyday use that can kill bacterial, viral and fungal matter.
Mériel currently has a market share of 30% in France.
