As the microbiological monitoring of air becomes ever more important in preventing the proliferation of infectious diseases, the microbiological air sampler SAS, made by international pbi, has received not only international but interplanetary recognition thanks to its use on the International Space Station ISS. SAS was used for the monitoring of indoor environmental conditions in order to protect the health of astronauts from possible human infections.

Intelligent Security (ISL) offers specially developed versions of Fire Sentry Corporation's advanced range of multi-spectrum, electro-optical flame and fire detectors, suitable for use in environments such as cleanrooms; paint spray booths; compressor and generator rooms and paint and spray can filling lines. The core technology of the units is based on that developed for sophisticated missile detection systems, as well as patented WideBand infrared detection software, which ensures rapid, accurate and reliable detection of all types of fire.

A range of medium pressure amalgam and quartz germicidal UV lamps from Light Emission Technologies is now being offered by Starna Industries. The lamps deliver short wave UV-C energy at 253.7 nanometres and are said to be highly effective at inhibiting the growth of bacteria, moulds, viruses, algae and fungi. Starna Industries says the lamps, which are the key element of a UVGI (ultra violet germicidal irradiation) system, can be used to purify final rinse water in holding and blending tanks, cans, bottles, pipe lines, heat exchangers and working areas. They can also be used to treat susceptible liquids to prevent fermentation and spoilage. Ultraviolet disinfection is suitable for the control of microbial contamination in meat and poultry processing plants and for the sterilisation of surfaces such as conveyor belts, food handling utensils and packaging materials. It is also effective at removing airborne spoilage organisms and pathogens carried by air conditioning and ventilation systems.
